Guanacaste Weather

In general, Costa Rica enjoys balmy weather and light breezes year-round, but the country's diverse terrain leads to climate variations depending on location and altitude.

Costa Rica's central and northwestern regions experience a dry season that runs from December through April. The central area receives fairly moderate temperatures throughout the year, while temperatures in the northwest reach up to 97°F in the summer with lows in the high 60s during the winter. During the rainy season from May through November, increased humidity makes temperatures seem higher.

The coastal and mountainous regions of central-western and southern Costa Rica experience a more varied climate where the average temperature is 81°F on the coast and 63°F in the mountains, with the average rainfall in the mountains almost doubling the amount along the coast. This area's dry season runs from January through March. Costa Rica's hurricane season lasts from the beginning of June through the end of November, but luckily hurricanes rarely hit here.
